Seven Days of Silence, One Shout of Faith
Scripture Focus: Joshua 6:1–20
"By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days." – Hebrews 11:30 (NIV)
---
In the heart of the Promised Land stood Jericho, a fortified city with high walls and a reputation for strength. To the Israelites, recently freed from slavery and wandering the desert for forty years, Jericho seemed like an impossible barrier between them and the fulfillment of God’s promise. But in God’s eyes, no wall was too strong and no city too secure to withstand the power of obedient faith.
The story begins in Joshua 6. God gave Joshua, the new leader of Israel after Moses, strange instructions: march around the city once a day for six days with all the armed men. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, then blow the trumpets, and shout. Only then would the walls collapse.
To the human mind, this strategy made little sense. There were no weapons involved, no plans for climbing or breaking down the walls—just walking, blowing trumpets, and shouting. But Joshua did not question God. Instead, he passed on the instructions exactly as God gave them. The people followed without complaint. Day after day, they walked in silence, building faith and anticipation.
And on the seventh day, just as God had said, the priests blew their trumpets, the people shouted, and the mighty walls of Jericho came crashing down.

Devotional Lessons
1. God’s Ways Are Not Our Ways
Often in life, we face "walls"—obstacles too big, too strong, and too impossible for us to move. It may be a problem in our family, a financial crisis, a health issue, or a personal struggle that feels like Jericho in our path. We want to fight with logic, strategy, and force, but God sometimes tells us to trust and obey instead.
God’s instructions to Joshua weren’t ordinary battle tactics—they were spiritual lessons. The Israelites had to learn that their victory would not come from their own power, but from obedience and faith. Likewise, when we face trials, we must remember that God's ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8–9). Victory comes when we trust Him completely, even when the path seems unusual.
2. Obedience Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense
Imagine walking around a city wall in silence for six days. To bystanders, it probably looked foolish. Yet the Israelites obeyed every detail. They didn’t argue or question God’s plan—they followed it step by step.
True faith is not passive—it acts in obedience. Sometimes God will ask us to do things that seem illogical or hard to understand. He may ask us to forgive someone who deeply hurt us, give generously when we are in need, or step out in faith when the future is uncertain. But just like with Jericho, blessings follow obedience.
3. Faith Builds Through Patience
For six days, nothing happened. They marched, but the walls didn’t move. Many of us would grow tired or discouraged. But every step was building their faith. Each day, God was preparing them for the miracle.
In our lives, we often want instant results. But God builds our faith in the waiting. He teaches us to trust Him even when we don’t see progress. If you are praying for something today and feel like nothing is happening, don’t give up. Keep walking in faith. God is at work behind the scenes, and your seventh day may be closer than you think.
4. The Power of Praise and Declaration
On the seventh day, when the people shouted, they did it in faith. The walls hadn’t fallen yet—but they believed God would act. Their shout was a declaration of victory before it happened.
Sometimes, we need to praise God not just after the breakthrough, but before it. Declaring His goodness, power, and faithfulness in advance is a powerful act of faith. When we lift our voices in worship despite our walls, we invite God’s presence and power into our situation.

Final Reflection
The fall of Jericho reminds us that no obstacle is too big for our God. It teaches us the power of obedience, faith, patience, and praise. When we align our hearts with God’s will and trust His timing, the walls that seem unbreakable begin to crumble.
What "Jericho" are you facing today? What walls are standing between you and the promise God has for you? Listen closely. God may be calling you to trust, obey, and keep walking—even when you don’t understand. And when the time is right, you’ll hear the trumpet sound, you’ll lift your voice in faith, and the walls will fall. Just keep walking. Keep believing.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to trust Your ways even when they don’t make sense to me. Strengthen my faith and give me patience in the waiting. Teach me to obey You fully, and to praise You even before the breakthrough. I believe that You can bring down every wall in my life. Amen.
