In the Waiting, God is Working
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
Waiting is one of the hardest things for us to do. In our fast-paced world, everything is about instant results. We want fast internet, quick answers, and immediate solutions. But God doesn’t always work on our timeline. Often, His greatest work in us happens during seasons of waiting.
If you’re in a season of waiting right now—waiting for healing, a breakthrough, an answer to prayer, a job opportunity, or even a restoration of a broken relationship—know this: God is not absent. He is not ignoring you. He is working behind the scenes in ways you cannot see.
The Bible is full of stories of people who had to wait on God’s timing. Abraham waited for the promise of a son. Joseph waited years in prison before his dream became a reality. David was anointed as king but waited many years before he wore the crown. Even Jesus, the Son of God, waited thirty years before beginning His public ministry.
Why does God make us wait?
Because it’s in the waiting that He molds our character. He deepens our faith, teaches us patience, and reminds us that we are not in control—He is. Waiting teaches us to trust. Not just in what God can do, but in who He is.
Isaiah 40:31 doesn’t say, “Those who rush ahead of the Lord will find strength.” No, it says, “Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” There is a divine exchange that happens when we surrender our need to control the timeline and instead trust in God’s perfect plan. Our strength is renewed. We rise above the storm like eagles soaring in the sky. We run the race of life with endurance and walk each step without fainting.
What are we supposed to do while we wait? Waiting on the Lord doesn’t mean sitting around passively. It’s an active, faith-filled expectancy. It means spending time in His Word. It means praying even when we don’t feel like it. It means worshipping even when we don’t see the outcome. It means holding on to hope and believing that God’s promises are still true—even if the evidence hasn’t arrived yet.
There is a quiet work happening inside of you as you wait. Your roots are growing deeper. Your faith is being refined. Your soul is being strengthened. God is preparing you for what’s next.
Don’t give up in the waiting. Don’t settle for shortcuts or make decisions out of desperation. God’s timing is never late. He knows the end from the beginning, and He knows exactly when to open the right door.
Trust Him.
One day, you will look back on this season and realize it was not wasted time. It was preparation time. God was preparing you for greater things. And when His plan finally unfolds, it will be far greater than anything you could have imagined.
Prayer:
Lord, I thank You for Your perfect timing. Even when I don’t understand why I have to wait, I choose to trust You. Help me to grow in faith and patience. Strengthen me in the waiting. Remind me daily that You are working all things together for my good. I surrender my timeline and my plans to You. I believe that what You have for me is worth the wait. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
