"God Remembers His Own"
One of the most powerful truths we can hold onto as believers is this: God never forgets His children. In moments of darkness, in the midst of judgment, when the world seems to be falling apart, God remembers. He remembers the prayers, the faithfulness, and the covenant He has with His people. A profound example of this is found in Genesis 19:29:
“So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, He remembered Abraham, and He brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.” (Genesis 19:29, NIV)
This verse is tucked quietly in the middle of a chaotic scene—Sodom and Gomorrah are being destroyed because of their wickedness. Fire and brimstone rain from heaven. But amid the destruction, God pauses. He remembers Abraham. And because of that remembrance, Lot and his family are saved.
Let that sink in. Lot was not saved because of his own righteousness, but because of Abraham’s relationship with God. Abraham had interceded for the city, and though his request for the cities to be spared wasn’t fulfilled, his nephew Lot was spared because God remembered Abraham.
This shows the power of intercession and the faithfulness of God to those who walk with Him. Abraham’s life and prayers mattered. They moved the heart of God.
God Is a Covenant-Keeping Father
When God makes a covenant, He keeps it. He made a promise to Abraham—to bless him, make him a great nation, and bless all families through him. Part of that covenant meant God watched over Abraham’s descendants. Even though Lot chose to live near Sodom, even though he may have compromised in some ways, God’s faithfulness to Abraham extended to Lot.
This gives us comfort as children of God. He does not forget us. He knows our names, our families, our needs. Even when we go through hardships or live in environments filled with sin and compromise, God still watches over us. He blesses and saves us not always because we are perfect, but because of His grace, His promises, and His remembrance of His covenant with His children.
God Still Remembers You
Maybe you feel like you’ve been forgotten. Maybe you are surrounded by circumstances that are burning down like Sodom. You’re trying to live right, but everything around you is falling apart. Let this truth strengthen you today: God remembers you. He sees your faith. He hears your prayers. He will not abandon you.
Like He did for Abraham, God will act in your life in ways that bring protection, deliverance, and blessings—not just for you, but for those connected to you. Your walk with God has more power than you realize. Your faith can be the very reason your family is blessed, protected, or guided. Your prayers can open doors for salvation and mercy over others.
Intercede Like Abraham
Let’s also be challenged to be like Abraham, who interceded boldly and humbly for others. Though he knew Sodom was wicked, he still pleaded for mercy. He didn’t stay silent; he stood in the gap. We are called to do the same—for our families, friends, neighbors, even cities. God hears our intercessions and honors them in ways we may not always see immediately, but in heaven’s record, they carry great weight.
Final Encouragement
No matter what you face today, remember this:
God thinks of you. God remembers you. God acts on your behalf.
Even when judgment comes upon the world, His eyes are on His righteous ones.
He rescues. He saves. He blesses—because He is faithful.
Hold on to His promises. Walk in faith. And know this: you are never forgotten in heaven.
