God Sees Beyond What We Show
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’”
— 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)

Reflection:
In a world where appearances, titles, and achievements are often what gain attention, God reminds us that what truly matters is the heart. Samuel, a prophet of God, was ready to anoint one of Jesse’s older, stronger sons as the next king of Israel because of how they looked. But God corrected him—saying that He does not see as man sees.
God saw something different in David—a young shepherd boy, forgotten by many but fully known by God. Though David wasn’t the strongest or tallest, he had a heart that loved, trusted, and obeyed God. That’s what made him God’s choice.

Personal Application:
Sometimes, we work so hard to look good in front of others—on social media, in church, or at work. We try to be impressive, successful, or well-liked. But God isn’t impressed by appearances. What He wants is sincerity, humility, and faithfulness.
Ask yourself:
Am I more focused on how others see me or how God sees me?
Do I spend more time developing my outer image than my inner character?
Is my heart aligned with God's will?
---
Truth to Hold On To:
God chooses people not because of what they look like or what they’ve done—but because of who they are inside.
Even when others overlook you, God sees you. When you feel unqualified, remember that God qualifies those whose hearts are fully His. He is more interested in your devotion than your perfection.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You that You see my heart. Help me not to be consumed by outward appearances, but to focus on building a heart that loves, obeys, and trusts You. Cleanse me from pride, fear, and comparison. Teach me to live each day seeking Your approval alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
