True Love Waits: A Beautiful Journey in God’s Perfect Time
Love is one of the most beautiful experiences ever bestowed upon us. As someone once said, “Love is the greatest refreshment in life.” It has the power to make us feel alive, radiant, and whole. This is exactly how God designed us—to love and to be loved.
Falling in love is indeed a magical feeling. Your heart beats faster, your palms may sweat, you feel nervous yet excited, and your attention is fully drawn to the person who’s captured your heart. Love lifts us up, inspires us, and at times, yes—it breaks us too. But as the saying goes: “It’s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.”
But do you know what makes love truly beautiful? The right timing.
As humans, it’s natural to long for a love that lasts—a love that is genuine and true. Unfortunately, many people become disillusioned and heartbroken in their search for this kind of love. One reason is timing. Sometimes, we’re simply too young, not yet emotionally or spiritually prepared for the weight of real love. Teenagers often confuse infatuation, first crushes, or “puppy love” with true love—giving everything to something that isn’t meant to last. The result? Pain, disappointment, and confusion. This stage of life is meant more for discovering ourselves, nurturing our dreams, and building a strong foundation for the future.
Another reason why love fails is immaturity. Immature love is often selfish, emotional, and unstable. In contrast, mature love is patient, selfless, understanding, and grounded in respect and responsibility. True love requires maturity, not just age.
And lastly, desperately searching for love can be dangerous. It can make you vulnerable to the wrong people and lead to unhealthy relationships. True love is not something you chase—it’s something you prepare for and wait for. It comes when you least expect it, often in the most beautiful and divine ways.
I once read a story from a book by Joshua Harris that deeply moved me. It was about a young man whose friends teasingly called him “virgin boy.” Yet, he stood firm in his commitment to wait patiently for the right woman. He went through high school and university without a single girlfriend. He focused on his studies, built his career, and most importantly, devoted his life to serving God.
Then, in God’s perfect time, he met a woman at church. He prayed about her. God guided him, and eventually, even the girl’s parents supported him in the courtship. Their love story blossomed under the grace of God, and in time, they were married. Their love was pure, intentional, and rooted in faith. Love, indeed, is most beautiful when it comes at the right time.
“Waiting is a sign of true love and patience.
Anyone can say ‘I love you,’
but not everyone can wait and prove it's true.”
To me, one of the most inspiring sights is a couple growing old together—faithfully walking hand in hand through life, having endured every season and storm. That’s the kind of love worth waiting for.
So, to anyone still waiting, still hoping—don’t rush. Focus on becoming the best version of yourself. Trust God with your heart. Because when it’s finally time, love will find you. And it will be worth every second of the wait.
