Closer Than a Brother: My Journey to True Friendship

“One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
— Proverbs 18:24

Back in high school, I didn’t fully understand what true friendship really meant. I thought having just one person to call a friend was enough. I had someone who called me her best friend—and I called her mine, simply because that’s how she made me feel. But as time passed, I encountered others who seemed genuine but later betrayed my trust. That experience wounded me. I stopped believing in best friends, and I guarded my heart tightly.

But everything changed when I met Jesus.

At a time when my world felt like it was falling apart—so dark and uncertain—He stepped in. I surrendered everything to Him, and in that moment, I discovered the truest friend I never knew I needed. Jesus became the perfect friend—faithful, constant, and full of love.

As I grew in my relationship with Christ, He began to heal and transform me. Through His Word, He reminded me that I am “fearfully and wonderfully made.” And with that truth, I slowly opened my heart again.

Now, by God’s grace, I have a best friend who’s like a sister to me. Our friendship has been tested by time, challenges, and growth—but it stands firm, rooted in God’s love. I’m also blessed with godly friends who have become like family—brothers and sisters in Christ who walk with me in faith and life.
